canとwillについて書いた中で、中学で初めに習う助動詞はcanと紹介ましたが、それは表の顔で、実は助動詞doが先に出てきます。「助動詞doって何？doは動詞でしょう？」という声が聞こえて来そうですね。
be動詞に続いて、一般動詞を学ぶと、
Do you play tennis?  No. I don't play tennis.
などの文を習いますが、これらのdo/does/didは「一般動詞を疑問文や否定文にする手助けをする」助動詞のdoです。
多くの場合、一般動詞にはdoを使って疑問文や否定文を作るんだよという説明と練習が先行し、can, will, must, mayなどが一通り出て来た後で、一般動詞を疑問文・否定文にする時使ったdoも実は助動詞なんだよ。「ほら、一緒でしょう」と後から説明されることになるように思います。これは、先生が一般動詞の学習の際言い忘れていた訳ではなくて、生徒の頭が混乱しないように配慮した結果です。
先生がどれくらい考えて学習プロセスを構築してくれているのか、学習者にはあまり分からないものです。

さて、最後の第5問です。4つのパラグラフからなる「プラネタリウムの歴史」についての長文です。考え方は第3問や第4問と同じ。
英文中に補う、3つの英文の順を問う問題が特徴的。今日はその箇所のみ紹介します。
空所の直前の英文がOn the other hand, many other people at the time didn't have such information.です。
(i) He saw those neighbors and wanted to help them have correct information about celestial bodies.
(ii) Many of Eise Eisinga's neighbors were also afraid that terrible things would happen to the earth because of the special phenomenon.
(iii) To do this, he decided to create a system which showed the positions and movements of some celestial bodies.

Eise Eisinga's neighbors→those neighbors / to help them have correct information→to do thisの繋がりが読めれば正しい文整序が可能です。

【対策】C問題全体を見て、学校の学習だけで志望校合格レベルに達するのは難しいでしょう。今年度の問題は昨年度より明らかに難化していると思います。
第3・4・5問の英文量と語彙の難しさ（第5問には14もの注釈のついた語句があります）を考えると40分の解答時間は短いと言えます。
本文の英文と正解となる選択肢の英文には書き換えはほぼなく、英文を正確に読めれば解答は難しくはありませんが、短い時間の圧迫を受けながら的確に読みこなすには、ある程度の量のトレーニングを積んで自信を持って受験できるように備える必要があります。

今日は第4問。第3問と同様、大学入学共通テストの影響を強く感じる問題形式です。「上総掘りと呼ばれる井戸掘り技術」の話です。
(1) People in the Kazusa area tried many different ways to (dig a deep well safely).を内容に則して語句を補う問は、1パラのAt first, people dug a well by working inside a hole. However, that way was dangerous. Also, they couldn't dig a deep well in that way. So, they tried many different ways.が読めていれば解ける。
(2) One of them was a long stick used to make a deep hole.が英文中で入るべき場所を選ぶ問題では、themが何を指すかの把握と、a long stickを直後の文でThe long stick was～.と受けて説明する繋がりから適切な場所を選ぶ。
(3) The method of digging a well with these tools was (spread) to many areas in Japan.と適語を補う問題は、文章の流れと、直後の文がPeople in those areas started to call the method, Kazusabori and used it ～.から選べるし、消去法でも同様の答えにたどり着く。
(4) The phrase these tools refers toに続く文を選ばせる問題は、直前のSo, they used the idea of Kazusabori and made similar tools for digging a well by using things they could easily get there.から適切な選択肢を選ぶ。referはsimilarと同様に、CEFR A2だが、普通の中3には（高校生でも）難しい語だろう。問題慣れが必要と言えます。

今日は第3問。（第2問は英文とグラフを正確に突き合せれば解る）
3つのパラグラフからなる「樫の木の樹皮から採れるコルク」に係る英文を読んで、内容に一致する語句や空所を補充する語/語句を選ぶ。
(1) The temperature in a room with walls using cork (doesn't change a lot even if it gets very hot outside).を選ぶ問題は、ほぼ書き換えの無い英文を1パラ内で見つけられれば答えられる。
(2) Many people know that cork is a (sustainable) material because it can be recycled, and～.で適語を空所に補充する問題では、because以下がその理由を説明しているから、sustainableを選択。この語はCEFR B2で難しいが、「SDGsなどで当然知ってるよね」との一般知識を学力として問うているとも考えられる。
(3) People can harvest the bark of a cork oak tree (without cutting down the tree).を選ぶ問題は、2パラにYou may think that, when people harvest the bark, they cut down the trees. However, the bark can be harvested without doing so.を見つけられればよい。
(4) That means the trees (are helpful in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air).と空所に語句を補充する問題は、Thatが前文のAlso, when cork oak trees make new bark, the amount of carbon dioxide they take in from the air greatly increases.を指すことが分かれば解答できる。
(5) 文章全体の内容に沿う英文を選ぶ問題は、目立つトピックではなく、何気ない一文を根拠にしているが、この傾向は英検2級の筆記問題によく似ている。

数回に分けて、〈英語〉C問題について考えます。今回は第1問。
第1問は、短文の空所に入る語句を4つの選択肢から選ぶ問題です。
(1) Please tell (me what I can do to) help you.
→tellがSVOO文型で用いられること、関係代名詞/疑問詞whatとI can doとの関係性およびto help youとの意味的接合を理解
(2) She was excited (to see the player who won) the national tournament.
→to (V)がbe excitedの理由を表す副詞的用法となっていること、関係代名詞主格の理解
(3) These broken things (can be repaired without much) money.
→助動詞＋受動態と前置詞＋名詞の理解
(4) I wonder (how many hours they kept walking) to get there.
→wonder＋疑問詞の形とkeep (V)ing for many hoursの接合を理解
(5) I (helped a person holding many bags get) on a bus.
→help＋人＋原形不定詞と現在分詞の後置修飾の理解
(6) The website (you recommended included various usuful) data for my research.
→関係代名詞・目的格の省略とThe website→includedのSVの把握

【対策】大切な文法事項を含んだ基本例文を、音声を利用して何度も発音し手書きすることが最も有効な学習であると考えます。
